3 Bedroom Cottage in Eye, Thornham Magna
A characterful thatched cottage situated in a rural location on the edge of the historic village of Thornham Magna, and close to the charming market towns of Eye and Diss. Perfect for couples, friends or travellers, this retreat is a breath of fresh air taking you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Take a second to admire the peaceful views before stepping inside to the farmhouse kitchen/diner, stylishly designed with a country feel, and seating for six people. A utility area and a charming shower room lie close by, well-appointed for your convenience. When it comes to relaxing, choose the light and airy conservatory, perfect for an hour on the sofa enjoying the natural landscape, alternatively, a game of table football is sure to keep you occupied. The lounge is a traditional haven for you and your loved ones, with an abundance of exposed beams which really set the scene for a snug night in. This same sense of charm continues to the three bedrooms; an en-suite double lies on the ground floor, whilst an interconnecting double and twin are tucked away onto the first floor, layered with characterful beams. Thornham Magna is a picturesque village, home for centuries to the Henniker family at Thornham Hall. The estate provides over ten miles of public walks around beautiful parkland and ancient woods, directly accessible from the cottage. The village has a pub (The Four Horse Shoes), a cafe and restaurant (The Forge, and The Thornham Coach House - check their websites for opening times). It is also home to two historic churches, including the charming thatched saxon church at Thornham Parva, with its famous medieval retable. Further afield, the cottage is an excellent base to explore the countryside, towns and coasts of East Anglia. Examples of the many places to visit include Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, Thetford Forest, the Norfolk Broads, the wonderful Steam Museum and gardens at Bressingham, the zoo at Banham, castles at Framlingham and Orford, country houses at Helmingham and Ickworth and Snape Maltings, home of the Aldeburgh music festival. A heart-warming getaway to begin your adventures. The cottage is a historic building in a truly rural setting, which has been extended at various times. In considering accessibility, please note that some of the rooms are on slightly different levels at the entry point, and the old part of the house has low ceilings (mind your head!) and the interconnected bedrooms under the thatch are accessed by a short but steep staircase, with a rope bannister. Both bathrooms are on the ground floor.
The small town of Eye is considered by its inhabitants to be more like a village. It has a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, and monthly cinema nights are held at the community centre. Just 5 miles away is the market town of Diss, in the beautiful Waveney Valley. The town has some excellent examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings, as well as an award-winning museum, the public park, the mere (lake) and shops and restaurants. The Market operates every Friday and coincides with a local antiques and collectables auction. Speciality markets, flea markets and farmers' markets are also held regularly. The town of Stowmarket has an 18 hole golf course, Suffolk's only open air museum, and a variety of shops and pubs. Explore the Suffolk Coast, or visit Thetford Forest (with its Go Ape high wire experience). Other attractions in the area include the wonderful Steam Museum and Gardens at Bressingham and the zoo at Banham.
