Travel Purpose: business

Positive: The host was excellent, really easy communication and excellent at replacing a couple of broken items and guiding us to extra bedding when one of the beds had not been made up in advance. The house was brilliantly situated for everything we needed easy access to (church and village hall). The garden was great for the kids to play in safely while I could watch them from the kitchen window and the outside seating area was lovely to enjoy in the evening sunshine. We were not there at peak times but felt it was lovely and quiet at night and we were not disturbed by traffic noise. There is excellent access to the small convenience store across the road, village information centre and post office too. The utility room was fantastic for the dog to sleep in and for it's extra fridge for food and drinks. Beds were comfortable. Would definitely book again and recommend for a stay in Porlock.

Negative: I felt the local agents (The Best of Exmoor) were not as helpful as we felt they might have been given the owner was oversees and that they knew were were there for my father's memorial service and there were some important issues that needed tending too. The owner had much more of a 'can-do' attitude and managed to replace the dishwasher for us whereas the agents said it couldn't be done. Neither did they send anyone to receive it and make decisions on its plumbing. I don't know the ins and outs of the property management arrangement as it is obviously between agent and owner but we did feel the owner was great at communicating and trying to help versus the agents. It would be great to have some hanging space even if it was just some hooks for hangers in the bedrooms as there is none available currently. We kept the front door locked at all times because it opens directly onto the main road but it is not an issue to use the back door, it just meant we had to keep telling any visitors to come round the back. The double bedrooms do not have black out curtains so if light bothers you then you may want to take a sleep mask.
