Writer’s Barn is a wonderful detached property situated within the grounds of ‘The Old Hare and Hounds’ – a charming Grade II Listed former public house. The barn has been meticulously designed with an emphasis on light and open plan living. The property caters for up to 2 guests and is the perfect spot for a quiet retreat in the Suffolk countryside.
A large open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room contains two comfortable leather sofas adjacent to bifolding doors overlooking the garden. A 55” LED Smart TV has a Sonos sound bar below making it ideal for a cosy movie night. At one end of the room is a Yamaha Grand Piano for any budding musicians and would therefore be a fantastic creative retreat from which to practice and/or compose, away for the hustle and bustle of modern life. (The piano is kept regularly tuned but please request pre visit tuning if required). The kitchen area contains a dual purpose convection and microwave oven and a hob. Guests should note that there is no conventional oven. An island provides space for seating with barstools adjacent to a floor-to-ceiling windows allowing for plenty of natural light.
Upstairs, a wonderful bedroom with four sky-lights contains a super king size bed with oak flooring and double doors opening onto a Juliet balcony with a lovely view over the rear garden and neighbouring fields. A bathroom contains a bath with a shower over, W.C. and wash-hand basin.
At the front of the property is a driveway which provides free off-road parking. Writer’s Barn has access to around an acre of gardens including an area adjacent to the property itself which contains a table and chairs.
The gardens have been beautifully curated with open areas and stretch far back from the lane through an area which contains a full sized cricket net (bat and balls provided) for anyone looking for a spot of exercise before afternoon tea on the lawns! There’s also a fully equipped table tennis table. At the top of the garden through secure gates is a small orchard with seating and beautiful views over neighbouring countryside – an ideal spot to watch the sunset. At the front of the house is a driveway which provides plenty of off-road parking.
Somerton is located in the heart of rural, undulating countryside, surrounded by stunning footpaths with two superb country pubs/restaurants close by and is also near to the wool towns of Long Melford, Lavenham, Cavendish and Clare with their many cafes, tea rooms and independent retailers. It’s only a short drive to Bury St. Edmunds with its numerous attractions, restaurants, cathedral, The Apex Concert Hall and the wonderful Theatre Royal. Also nearby are several stately homes and parks open to the public including Nowton Park, the National Trust’s Ickworth Park, Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall.

In this instance, the grounds and driveway will be shared and so we ask that guests be considerate of one another and ensure that the driveway remains clear for entrance/exit at all times.
