Summary: This is a nice home in a lovely area. It sits up on the hillside and has beautiful views across the Bay Area. The home is two-story with the entryway upstairs. There is a sunken living room (~6 inches down), worth noting for renters with either small children or people with balance issues. The home has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. However, all the upstairs bedrooms were locked and excluded from the renters’ use. All beds are downstairs and served by a single bathroom with a single sink. The third bed (pull-down) is in a media area. One must traverse this area to get to the bathroom, and as such, run the risk of waking its occupant up with a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night. None of the (available) bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom. It would make for a much nicer rental if an upstairs (main floor) bedroom (or two) was made available to guests. Preparation for our stay was uneven. Some areas were clean; others had notable deficiencies. There were dirty dishes in the dish rack by the sink. The placemats left for use were quite dirty, and we did not use them. Occasional kitchen items needed to be recleaned prior to use. The sponge left in the sink was old and dirty (an illustrative, but bemusing oversight). Five dead plants sat in the small bay window in the kitchen. The kitchen was generally well stocked. Present were high quality cooking knives. There is a Keurig coffee maker, but not coffee pot. There is a toaster over, but not a conventional toaster. Bemusing was that we initially had no hot water in the kitchen or in the downstairs area. One of the two hot water heaters for the home had gone out. It took two days to get this fixed. The host did facilitate getting this fixed and did offer some reimbursement.. A washer and dryer were present, but there was black mold growing on the rubber gasket inside the door of the washing machine. This should be dealt with. No instructions were left for how to use the TV upstairs or the media area downstairs. Detailed instructions would be useful. No instructions were left for how to manage the thermostats. Zoning in the house is unusual withtwo zones, each of which include both upstairs and downstairs areas. In short, this is a nice home with a great view. Having a more complete description would be useful for the prospective renter. With experience, one anticipates a more even preparation of the home for future renters, but this is a work in progress.
